Meet Jayden

Why did you want to work at Nordri?

I did work experience at Nordri Ltd during 5th Year at school and I really enjoyed the varied work that we carried out and everyone I worked with was very helpful and welcoming.

What is it that interested you in a career as a plumber/electrician/mechanical engineer?

 I was keen to get a trade, and electrical installation was the area I was most interested in throughout my college course.  

What are you most looking forward to?

 I am looking forward to getting more practical experience throughout my 2nd year,

What have you most enjoyed so far about your apprenticeship?

I have enjoyed learning how to wire a house from start to finish and finding out how to install a solar system and how it works.

What is your favourite go-to break/lunch?

 Sassermeat & Onion Roll with chips and cheese

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years? 

 I hope to still be working at Nordri Ltd as a qualified electrician

Meet Jack

Why did you want to work at Nordri?

I did work experience a few years ago and really enjoyed it so that kind of sparked my initial interest in working for Nordri. 

What is it that interested you in a career as a plumber/electrician/mechanical engineer?

Again did work experience and got to try a wide variation of jobs and different trades, particularly enjoyed the electrical side and decided that was the trade I wanted to go down.

What are you most looking forward to?

I am looking forward to finishing college and getting qualified.

What have you most enjoyed so far about your apprenticeship?

Probably the wide range of work Nordri does and getting to see and learn all aspects of the trade.

What is your favourite go-to break/lunch?

Islesburgh’s chicken loaded fries.

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?

Not sure…

meet Ian

Why did you want to work at Nordri?

I finished my NC engineering at Scalloway UHI and was looking to further my engineering experience. When the advert came up for Mechanical engineer apprentice at Nordri I knew they were an up-and-coming renewables company.

What is it that interested you in a career as a plumber/electrician/mechanical engineer?

I’ve been involved with boats since I was young and enjoyed seeing how

things work which inspired me to pursue engineering.

What are you most looking forward to?  

I look forward to more work ahead, and expanding my knowledge as the team continues to grow.

What have you most enjoyed so far about your apprenticeship?

 I really enjoy working with turbines, traveling all across Shetland. Also working on the ferries and learning from people.

What is your favourite go-to break/lunch?

The Weigh bridge is my favourite go-to for break times 

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years? 

I would like to see myself progressing with Nordri as I really enjoy the variety of work we carry out!

MEET JAMES

Why did you want to work at Nordri?

My Grandad told me a while ago about Nordri and the team when I told him I wanted to be an electrician, ever since I've been interested in coming to Nordri.

What is it that interested you in a career as a plumber/electrician/mechanical engineer?

I really enjoyed the work experience and it further confirmed that this is what i wanted to do and the trade I wanted to learn especially at Nordri.

What are you most looking forward to?  

I've always been interested in electricity and electronics and I would do DIY repairs in the house on chargers and lamps and others and I knew that it was something i really enjoyed doing and I would love to learn more about and pursue as a career.

What have you most enjoyed so far about your apprenticeship?

I've really enjoyed all the electrical work I've done, There's always something new to learn and practice. It’s always interesting going to different jobs with different problems to solve and adapt to.

What is your favourite go-to break/lunch?

So far the favourites been Frankie's, Although I've been to many places so far, another good one was the burger van outside Tesco's. 

MEET MARK

Why did you want to work at Nordri?

I wanted to be a plumber when I left school, when the apprenticeship came up I knew it was something I wanted to try and get. Nordri had a good reputation, and I thought it would be a good place to work.

What is it that interested you in a career as a plumber/electrician/mechanical engineer?

My Dad is a plumber and I had lots of interest and experience with him while growing up, so I knew always it was what I wanted to do.

What are you most looking forward to?  

Serving my time to become fully qualified. I enjoy going to college in Aberdeen and getting to play for a football team, when I am down there.

What have you most enjoyed so far about your apprenticeship?

Tomas and Connor are great to work with and very supportive of my learning. All the jobs are really interesting, I’ve already learned lots about installing heat pumps.

What is your favourite go-to break/lunch?

In Aberdeen, my favourite place is Big Baps and in Shetland I like The Takeaway at the old weighbridge.
