Challenge
The ferry linkspan suffered an unexpected hydraulic failure that threatened service continuity. The client needed an urgent diagnosis and repair solution carried out within the constraints of a tight ferry timetable—without causing delays or downtime. Additionally, underlying issues within both the hydraulic and control systems required a structured plan to restore the site to a reliable operating standard.
Solution
Nordri mobilised at short notice to attend the site and perform rapid hydraulic fault finding. The root cause was identified as a failed accumulator, which Nordri sourced, replaced, and commissioned during natural breaks in the timetable to maintain uninterrupted ferry operations.
During the initial repairs, several further issues were uncovered within the hydraulic and control systems. Nordri developed a comprehensive schedule of works to address these, including:
→ Oil and filter changes
→ Installation of new gaskets and seals
→ Modifications and replacement brackets for key components
→ System tidying and improvement for long-term reliability
Results & Impact
The ferry service remained fully operational throughout the repair process, with Nordri completing all work during natural timetable gaps to avoid any downtime. The critical accumulator was replaced quickly and safely, restoring immediate functionality to the linkspan. Through the additional scheduled improvements—such as oil and filter changes, new seals and gaskets, and upgraded component brackets—the hydraulic and control systems were significantly enhanced, improving overall reliability. Clear and accurate reporting to the SIC maintenance department ensured full transparency and confidence in the work delivered.
